CGHS Update: The Central Government operates several health schemes that benefit a wide range of beneficiaries. The Central Government has provided significant relief to over 4.2 million beneficiaries. If a beneficiary’s treatment costs range from five to ten lakh rupees, their file will be approved without delay.
Only the heads of departments working in various ministries and departments will be able to approve. They will have to send the file to the Internal Finance Division of the respective ministry or department. This will help the beneficiary and free them from the hassle of running around to the relevant desk to check the status of their file.

Currently, the treatment limit for beneficiaries is set at two to five lakh rupees. This change was made 10 years ago. Now, this limit has been doubled from five lakh rupees to ten lakh rupees.
Current Treatment Limit
Currently, the treatment limit for CGHS beneficiaries wisset at two to five lakh rupees. This change was made 10 years ago. Now, this limit has been increased to ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Beneficiaries will need to bear the cost of treatment themselves.
The department will then reimburse the amount promptly. Previously, the CGHS Hospital Director (HOD) would not directly approve files involving such expenses. Furthermore, the file had to be sent to the IFD.
There were also delays in getting the file approved. Medical bills and other documents in the file were checked to ensure they were correct. If any errors were found, they took time to correct.
Important Documentation
To receive benefits, documents such as a completed claim form, discharge summary and referral slip, original hospital bills and receipts, an emergency certificate, a copy of the CGHS card, and a cancelled check are required.
This expense will also be included.
It’s heartening to know that the government also pays for the ambulance that transports patients to the hospital. According to the rules, ambulance travel within the city is reimbursed only if a doctor certifies that the patient’s condition is such that transporting them in another vehicle would be fatal.
