While travelling by train, Indian Railways provides many free facilities to its passengers, but most people don’t know about them. When you buy a train ticket, you also get many rights for free. These include things like free bedrolls and free food during the journey. Let’s understand when and how passengers can get these free services from the railways.

Free Bedroll

Indian Railways gives passengers a blanket, pillow, two bedsheets, and a hand towel in all AC1, AC2, and AC3 coaches. But in Garib Rath Express, passengers have to pay Rs 25 for this service. In some trains, bedrolls are also available in sleeper class. If you do not get a bedroll during your journey, you can complain and ask for a refund.

Free Medical Help

If you feel sick during your train journey, the railways give free first aid. If the situation is serious, they also arrange further medical help. You can contact ticket collectors, train superintendents, or other railway staff. If needed, Indian Railways will arrange treatment at the next station, sometimes at a reasonable cost.

Free Food

If you are travelling in Rajdhani, Duronto, or Shatabdi Express, and your train is late by more than 2 hours, the railways will give you free food. Also, if the train is delayed and you want good food, you can order meals through the IRCTC e-catering service.

Store Luggage at the Station for a Month

Did you know? At most big railway stations, you can use the cloakroom or locker room to keep your luggage. You can store your bags here for up to 1 month. However, you will have to pay a small fee for this facility.

Free Waiting Hall

If you need to wait for your next train or want to stay at the station for some time, you can use the AC or non-AC waiting halls. To enter, just show your train ticket. This facility is free for passengers at most railway stations.
