The facility of free travel for women in DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) buses in Delhi is now going to come in a new form. This facility was started in 2019 when the Aam Aadmi Party Government was in power and Arvind Kejriwal was the Chief Minister. Now the BJP Government has come to Delhi, and Rekha Gupta has become the Chief Minister, but the free bus service for women is still going on. However, now its format is going to change.

Currently, women in Delhi have to show a pink slip for free travel. But the Delhi government is now going to give a smart card, which is also being called ‘Saheli Smart Card’. This card will make free bus travel more convenient and safe for women. Let us know how women can get this card made and what documents will be required for this.

What is it and how will it work

According to the information received from the Delhi government, it will now be mandatory for women to get a Saheli Smart Card for free travel on the bus. This card will be like a National Common Mobility Card, which can also be used on various modes of transport. Its entire process will be online, so that women will not need to take pink slips again and again, and they will be able to travel easily by getting the card made once.

Eligibility and necessary documents for Saheli Smart Card

It is very important to know who will be eligible for the Saheli Smart Card and which documents you have to keep ready. Women should be above 12 years of age to get the card made. It is also important that they are permanent citizens of Delhi. This card will be made only for those women who are permanently living in Delhi and not in any other area of NCR.

The process of making the Saheli Smart Card will be completely online, which makes it convenient:

First of all, women have to register by visiting the portal of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

During registration, they have to select the bank from which they want to get the card. The Delhi government has partnered with various banks to make the process easier.

You will have to go to the chosen bank and complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process through the Aadhar card. This is necessary for identity and address verification.

After the KYC process is completed, the Saheli smart card will be sent to your home address by the bank.

Activating the card and future benefits

After getting the Saheli smart card, you have to activate it so that you can use it. The card will be activated through DTC’s Automatic Fare Collection System. This process will probably be completed at a machine installed in the bus or at an authorized center. Being a National Common Mobility Card, it can also be integrated into the Metro or other public transport services in the future, making travel even easier. This will not only make free travel easier but will also promote digital transactions.
