On October 4, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded the scope of the Chief Minister’s Self-Help Allowance Scheme. Following this historic announcement, unemployed graduates have now been included in this financial assistance. This allowance will relieve financial worries for youth preparing for important competitive exams like the BPSC and SSC, enabling them to rapidly progress towards self-reliance.

Eligibility for the Unemployment Allowance Scheme

To benefit from the Unemployment Allowance Scheme, applicants must fully meet certain important eligibility criteria and conditions.

The applicant must be a permanent resident of Bihar.

The applicant must be between 20 and 25 years of age.

The applicant must have passed the 12th grade or graduation examination with distinction from a recognized school in Bihar.

The applicant must have dropped out of school after 12th grade or graduation and have no other employment opportunities.

The applicant must not have been issued any other allowance, scholarship, student credit card, or have any pending education loan.

The applicant must not be associated with any government or non-government organization.

Skill Development Condition

To receive unemployment allowance, applicants must undergo basic computer training under the Skilled Youth Program. The last five months of allowance will be available only if they submit a certificate of basic computer training. Once the applicant finds employment, the unemployment allowance will cease from that date.

Amount and Duration Under the Scheme

Eligible unemployed youth will receive ₹1,000 per month as unemployment allowance from the government. This financial assistance will be available to them for a total of 24 months, or two years. During this period, youth can successfully search for employment.

Required Documents

The application requires important documents such as your 12th-grade marksheet and certificate, your 10th-grade marksheet or certificate, your residence certificate, your Aadhaar card, a photocopy of the first page of your bank passbook, and your PAN card.

Online Application for Unemployment Allowance

To receive the Bihar Unemployment Allowance, you must apply online. After applying online, you must visit your district’s Registration and Counselling Center (DRCC) with the required documents.

First, visit the official website of the Unemployment Allowance Scheme.

Create a username and password to log in.

Then click on the SHA Scheme form. Fill in all the required information completely and correctly.

Sign the declaration. Then attach a copy of the documents.

Provide your bank details.

Afterward, an OTP will be sent to your email address and mobile phone. Verify all the information using the OTP and submit it.

Upon submission, an acknowledgement number will be generated.

Your form will be verified. If everything is found to be correct, it will be sent for further processing. You will receive an SMS on your mobile phone when your application is approved, and the allowance will then begin to be credited directly to your account.

Submitting Documents at the DRCC Office

After filling out the form and obtaining a PDF printout, you can submit all the documents by visiting the DRCC office on any working day between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. No separate email or SMS will be sent from the center for this purpose.

Check Application Status

To check your application status, visit the scheme’s official website. Click on Application Status. Select either Registration ID or Aadhaar number. Enter your date of birth and the captcha code, and submit. You will see your application status.
