Bank Holiday January 2026: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has put out a list of official bank holidays for January. According to this list, banks will be shut for a total of 16 days in January 2026. This includes public holidays, plus the usual weekly breaks on every Sunday and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. So, it’s a good idea to plan your banking tasks ahead of time to steer clear of any issues.

The RBI has sorted bank holidays into three clear categories to help customers know which services will be available on which days. These categories are Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays. Keep in mind that some holidays are specific to certain states, so make sure to check the full list for your state before heading to a bank branch.

Will your work get stalled if banks are closed?

The good news is that even though bank branches will be closed, digital banking services will remain fully operational. Services like UPI transactions, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, ATM cash withdrawals, mobile and internet banking will remain unaffected by the holidays. However, check clearance, drafts, locker access, and branch visits will not be possible during the holidays.
