How many SIM cards can be purchased on one Aadhaar card?

As per the guidelines of the Government of India, a maximum of 9 SIM cards can be purchased on one Aadhaar card. However, this number can increase to 18 for machine to machine (M2M) services. M2M services are specifically for connecting devices, such as smart home devices and IoT systems used in vehicles.

What problems can arise if you buy more SIM cards?

If you purchase more than 9 SIM cards or use them without proper reason, you may face the following problems:

SIM card may be blocked: Additional SIM cards may be blocked to protect your identity.

Possibility of fraud: Misuse of multiple SIM cards can lead to cyber fraud or other illegal activities, which may make you liable.

Legal Action: If the SIM card registered in your name is used for any illegal activity, you may face legal action.

Consumer Verification: TRAI and Department of Telecommunications periodically check SIM card users. If the number of SIMs on your SIM card is found to be more than the limit, you may receive a notice.

How to check SIM card?

The government has launched the TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) portal to get information about how many SIM cards are registered in your name.

Visit the TAFCOP website.
Enter your mobile number.
After OTP verification, the list of all SIM cards registered in your name will be visible.
The rule of taking a limited number of SIM cards on Aadhaar card is for your security and to maintain transparency in the digital system. Avoid taking extra SIM cards and keep checking your SIM card list from time to time.
