Aadhaar Card- Major news for Aadhaar Card holders. After two months, work is going on on the project to start biometric update of children through schools in a phased manner. This information was given by a top official.

Work will be done in 2 months

CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India Bhuvnesh Kumar told PTI that more than 7 crore children have not updated their biometrics for Aadhaar (Aadhaar Card Biometric Update), which is mandatory after the age of 5 years. Kumar said that UIDAI is working on a project to update biometrics of children through schools with the consent of parents. We are testing this technology and it will be ready in 45 to 60 days.

Why is the rule necessary?

The timely completion of the required biometric update (MBU) is necessary to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the biometric data of children. If MBU is not completed even after the age of 7, then according to the current rules, the Aadhaar number may become inactive. This much fee will be charged If MBU is done between the ages of five to seven, it is free, but after the age of seven, there is a fee of Rs 100 for Aadhaar card update.

Under this project, UIDAI will send biometric machines to each district, which will be rotated from one school to another. Aadhaar with updated biometrics makes life easier and ensures the use of Aadhaar in availing services like school admission, registration for entrance tests, availing scholarships, DBT schemes, etc.

Kumar said that we are planning to take the process of creating a second MBU by going to schools and colleges, which is done after the child completes 15 years of age. Currently, Aadhaar of newborns and children below 5 years of age is created without their biometrics.
