In this regard, UIDAI has issued an important security advisory through social media, warning people about the increasing online fraud related to Aadhaar.
Today, the Aadhaar card has become an identity for many essential services. Aadhaar is used in bank accounts, government schemes, mobile connections, and digital verification. If this information falls into the wrong hands, biometric data and personal details can be misused. This not only leads to financial loss but can also result in serious problems like identity theft.

UIDAI’s advice regarding OTP

UIDAI has clarified that the Aadhaar-linked OTP should not be shared with any person or caller. The OTP is a crucial link in your digital security. Sharing it allows anyone to access your personal information.
How Masked Aadhaar increases security

Using a masked Aadhaar is considered safer for daily needs such as hotel check-in or SIM verification. In this, the first eight digits of the Aadhaar number are hidden, so the complete number is not made public, reducing the risk of misuse.
A biometric lock provides additional security

The biometric lock facility is available through the UIDAI website or the official app. Once locked, fingerprint, iris, or face authentication cannot be used without permission. This thwarts the attempts of scammers.

Avoid sharing Aadhaar information online
