Ration Card New Update: People with ration cards no longer need to travel to get their e-KYC done. The NIC has developed a new app called Mera e-KYC, which allows you to update your Aadhaar and other information on your ration card from the comfort of your home. The Food Department has also instructed all fair price shop operators to distribute this app to the public and teach them how to use it so that more people can benefit from this digital facility.
Why was e-KYC made mandatory?
To make the ration distribution system transparent and prevent fraud, the Food Department has made e-KYC mandatory. There are approximately 1.8 million ration card holders in the district, of which approximately two lakh cards have not yet been updated with e-KYC. Those whose KYC is incomplete have their rations withheld and are encouraged to update their information as soon as possible.
No more long queues
Due to crowds and long queues at Choice Centres or ration shops, many people were unable to complete their e-KYC verification. Addressing this problem, NIC, under the direction of the Central Government, launched the Mera e-KYC app. This app allows anyone to update their Aadhaar and ration card information on their mobile phone. Now, there’s no need to stand in line.
What will happen if e-KYC is not completed?
The Food Department has clarified that those whose e-KYC is not updated will not receive rations under the Public Distribution System. Therefore, all eligible beneficiaries have been advised to complete this process as soon as possible. The department has also instructed shop owners to explain the app’s use to people and provide technical assistance if needed.
How to do e-KYC from home
First, open the Google Play Store on your mobile and download the Mera e-KYC app. Select your state and district. Then, enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number. Then, verify your identity through face verification or OTP. Once the verification is complete, your information will automatically be updated on your ration card.

The biggest benefit of completing e-KYC is that you can use your ration card to receive rations under government schemes in any state across the country. After completing e-KYC, beneficiary information becomes available nationwide. Selecting the state, district, and village will display all ration-related information on your mobile or computer screen.
