8th Pay Commission Salary- Big news for government employees. Discussions regarding the 8th Pay Commission have intensified even before the festive season. Along with central government employees, Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officers are also hopeful. It is believed that if the fitment factor is set at 1.92, their salaries will see a significant increase.

What is the basic pay now?

Currently, the basic salary of an IPoS officer starts at Rs 56,100 per month and can go up to Rs 225,000 depending on experience and position. In addition, officers receive travel allowance (TA), house rent allowance (HRA), medical coverage, special allowances, and pension benefits. This means their in-hand salary is much higher than their basic pay.

Calculation of new salary after 8th Pay Commission
If fitment factor 1.92 is applied to basic pay of Rs 56,100 then:

Entry Level (Rs 56,100 × 1.92) = Rs 1,07,712 per month
Top level (Rs 2,25,000 × 1.92) = Rs 4,32,000 per month
This means that the basic pay itself will nearly double. Adding DA (currently 55%, likely to increase to 58% soon), HRA (24% in metro cities), medical and other allowances will further increase the in-hand salary.

Understand with an example

Suppose an officer’s basic pay is currently ₹56,100. At the current 55% DA, they receive a dearness allowance of ₹30,855. This means a total of basic + DA = Rs 86,955. Now, if the 8th Pay Commission’s fitment factor of 1.92 is applied, the basic salary will increase to Rs 1,07,712. Adding 58% DA (Rs 62,472) to this, the total salary will exceed Rs 1,70,000. Including HRA and other allowances, the in-hand salary could reach around Rs 2 lakh per month.

What are the expectations of employees?

In March 2025, the government increased DA by 2% to 55%. Now, it is preparing to increase it to 58% in October. Furthermore, in January 2025, the government clarified that the 8th Pay Commission would be formed and its Terms of Reference could be released before Diwali. Therefore, millions of central employees, including IPoS officers, may receive significant good news this time.

If the 8th Pay Commission is implemented and the fitment factor is set at 1.92, the basic salary of an Indian Postal Service officer will increase directly from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,07,712. At the top level, it could reach Rs 4.32 lakh. Including allowances, the in-hand salary will nearly double. This will not only impact the standard of living of officers but will also boost consumption and demand in the economy. Note that this is only a calculation; further details will be revealed after the commission is formed.
