Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana: Over 70 but Not Eligible? Know the Rules

Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana: The Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana is a dedicated health protection initiative aimed at senior citizens. This program allows every Indian citizen aged 70 and above, irrespective of their financial background or community, to access free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. There are no specific eligibility requirements related to income, caste, rural or urban residency, or economic status. Senior citizens who qualify will receive an Ayushman Vay Vandana card, enabling them to enjoy cashless treatment at designated government and private hospitals throughout the nation.

Who is excluded from the scheme’s benefits?

While the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana is accessible to nearly all Indian seniors aged 70 and older, certain conditions may disqualify individuals from receiving its advantages. Those under 70 years of age are not eligible for the scheme. Additionally, a card will not be issued if the Aadhaar-based e-KYC and identity verification processes are not completed. Applications may be denied if false or fraudulent documents are submitted, if there are attempts to obtain multiple cards in the same individual’s name, or if the identity information provided is found to be inaccurate.

Moreover, the scheme’s benefits are only applicable at government and private hospitals that are part of the AB-PMJAY network. If a patient seeks treatment at a facility not included in the list or opts for services not covered by the scheme, they will not receive the benefits and will need to pay for the treatment out of pocket. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the eligibility criteria, e-KYC process, and the list of hospitals before applying for the card.

Who is eligible to benefit from the scheme?

This initiative is designed for all Indian citizens aged 70 years and older. Those who are already benefiting from the Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PM-JAY) can still apply for a separate card under the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana. Additionally, family members who are already receiving PM-JAY benefits and are 70 years or older will also receive extra health coverage, in accordance with government policies.

Which diseases are treated free of cost?

The plan covers a wide range of treatments and surgeries. These include heart disease and heart surgery, cancer treatment, kidney disease and dialysis, neurological and brain-related treatments, orthopedic surgery, joint replacement, ICU admission, emergency care, eye, ENT, and many other specialized treatments. Treatment is completely cashless, as per government-defined package rates.

Treatment can be done anywhere in the country

The most significant feature of the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana is its pan-India portability. This means that even if a senior citizen lives outside their state, they can still receive treatment at any listed government or private hospital in the country. This provides significant convenience to seniors who live with their children in other cities or states.

How to get Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card made?

The government has simplified the process of obtaining the card. Eligible senior citizens can apply online through the Ayushman App. Registration can also be done through the nearest Common Service Center (CSC), listed hospitals, or Ayushman Help Desk. Aadhaar card, mobile number, and identity documents are verified during application. The government has also mandated Aadhaar-based e-KYC to increase transparency and prevent fraudulent beneficiaries
