Railway Employees Bonus Hike: An important update on the Productivity-Linked Bonus (PLB) for railway staff is anticipated on Wednesday, October 14th. During the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the proposal for the yearly bonus for railway employees will likely be reviewed. Currently, eligible non-gazetted railway workers get a bonus equivalent to 78 days’ salary, capped at Rs 7,000, resulting in a total bonus of Rs 17,951. There is now a growing demand to raise this cap.
Railway Employees Bonus Hike Update
The current system for calculating the PLB for eligible non-gazetted railway employees involves a 78-day salary and a fixed cap of Rs 7,000, resulting in a bonus of Rs 17,951. This cap has remained unchanged since 2014-15, prompting calls for a revision.
The Indian Railways Technical Supervisors’ Association (IRTSA) has proposed raising the salary cap to Rs 18,000 plus dearness allowance (DA) for employees at level 2 and above. They argue that the current system needs updating, pointing out the minimum salary of ₹21,000 for unskilled workers. Based on this proposed limit, the organization suggests an annual bonus of at least ₹46,184.
– The government’s consideration of the proposal does not guarantee approval for the bonus increase. The final decision and the revised amount are still pending.
Cabinet Meeting to be Held
\Railway employees are eagerly awaiting a potential decision by the Cabinet. If the government agrees to raise the salary cap, it could lead to a change in the bonus calculation, potentially resulting in higher payouts for eligible employees. However, it is premature to confirm whether the bonus will indeed reach ₹46,184 or if a different amount will be decided upon. This hinges on the official decision of the Cabinet and the subsequent announcement by the Railway Ministry.
The Railway Board has issued a caution regarding a fake letter circulating on social media, claiming approval for a ₹41,149 bonus for the fiscal year 2025-26. The Board clarified that this document was fraudulent, containing forged signatures and not issued by them. They instructed railway offices not to act on this letter and advised employees to verify bonus-related information from official sources. As of now, the current bonus stands at ₹17,951, contrasting with the union’s demand of ₹46,184. Railway employees should not assume that the potential Cabinet discussion signifies final approval, but should await an official announcement regarding the revised bonus amount.
