Mini Nandini Scheme Gets a Major Update, Farmers Can Buy Sahiwal and Gir Cows From Home

Mini Nandini Yojana: Cattle farmers in Uttar Pradesh have received positive news regarding the “Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana” scheme, part of the “Nand Baba Dugdh Mission” by the Yogi government. Previously, beneficiaries of the scheme had to travel to other states like Gujarat, Rajasthan to acquire indigenous dairy cows such as Sahiwal, Tharparkar, and Gir.

However, a significant change has been implemented. Now, cattle farmers can obtain these cows from their own state via traders from other states. This alteration was announced by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department.

Key Changes in the Plan:

1. Previously, farmers had to travel to distant states to purchase cows, incurring expenses for travel, negotiation, and transportation.
2. The new process allows large traders from other states to participate in cattle fairs held in every district of Uttar Pradesh, enabling farmers to directly contact them for high-quality cows.

Benefits to Livestock Farmers:

1. Elimination of the need to travel to other states, reducing expenses.
2. Enhanced security in transactions by purchasing through authorized traders.
3. Submission of purchase details directly to the Animal Husbandry Department for easy processing on the Nand Baba Milk Mission portal.

Overview of Mini Nandini Scheme and Subsidies:

The scheme requires farmers to establish a dairy unit with 10 indigenous cows, costing Rs 23.60 lakh in total. A generous subsidy of 50%, up to Rs 11.80 lakh, is provided by the government. The subsidy is disbursed in two installments directly to the beneficiary’s account.  Land requirements include approximately 0.20 acres for the dairy shed and green fodder management, which can also be leased for a 5-year period.
