For would-be buyers of an off-road SUV waiting for a discount, this month may prove to be the best time. Maruti Suzuki is offering a direct ₹1 lakh cash discount on the Jimny Alpha model without any bundled deals or conditions. This is an unusual step for a niche SUV that is remembered more for its performance rather than price.
Price and Market Response
The ex-showroom starting price of the Jimny is ₹12.76 lakh. But with the current offer, the customers will get a dramatically lower effective price on the Alpha trim. Though it has been highly acclaimed abroad—particularly in Japan, where the waiting list has gone up to 3.5 years—its sales here have been sluggish. In May, merely 682 units were retailed nationwide.
Engine and Transmission
The Jimny has a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder K15B mild-hybrid petrol engine. The engine produces 105 hp and 134 Nm of maximum torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual as well as a 4-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain is designed for rugged terrains, suiting its off-road character.
Design and Exterior Highlights
Jimny has a tough appearance with practical design features such as steel wheels, drip rails, and front and rear welded tow hooks. The Alpha model includes luxury features such as alloy wheels, LED auto headlamps with washer, fog lamp, and deep green tinted glass for that added privacy and flash. Body-coloured door handles add to the SUV’s monochromatic body.
Interior and Comfort Features
Inside, it provides utility and convenience by virtue of amenities such as reclinable front seats, adjustable headrests for both rows, and a multifunction steering with mounted controls. The interior is also more upscale in the Alpha trim with leather-trimmed steering, push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, and cruise control.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The SUV features a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro infotainment touchscreen in the base model. The Alpha model, however, gets an upgraded 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+. Both units are capable of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Alpha model also gets Arkamys surround sound system, upgrading the entertainment experience inside the cabin.
