Mahindra SUVs: Mahindra has established a new benchmark for India’s SUV market. In May 2025, the auto company sold a total of 52,431 units of SUVs. This compares with 43,218 units sold in May 2024 and represents a strong 21% year-on-year growth. One major contributor to this spurt is the collective performance of three models—Scorpio, Thar, and XUV700—whose performance accounted for almost 60% of Mahindra’s overall SUV sales during the previous month.
Scorpio Continues to Be the Top Seller
Scorpio remains Mahindra’s best performer. In May 2025, it sold 14,401 units, posting a 5% growth over last year. With its rugged looks and contemporary features, Scorpio is a dominant player in both rural and urban markets.
What Makes Scorpio So Popular
Scorpio is popular due to its combination of comfort, performance, and safety. It comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, cruise control, 360-degree camera, and semi-digital instrument cluster. Safety is enhanced through numerous airbags and a rear park camera. Its ex-showroom price ranges from Rs.13.99 lakh to Rs.25.15 lakh, making it an all-rounder for various buyers.
Thar Sales Jump 81 Percent
The Mahindra Thar logged a whopping 81% year-on-year sales growth with selling 10,389 units in May 2025. Its popularity is only increasing due to its off-roading capabilities, aggressive looks, and lifestyle offerings. This surge reflects the growing demand among young Indian customers for feature-packed adventure SUVs.
XUV700 Increases Mahindra’s Winning Spree
With 6,435 units of sales, the Mahindra XUV700 helped the company achieve its success in May in large part. This means a 28% increase over last year. XUV700 is loved for its high-end feel, punchy engine variants, and sophisticated safety features, and it is one of the mainstays of Mahindra’s stable.
What Powers These SUVs
Scorpio has two engine options—a 2.0-litre turbo petrol that generates 203bhp and a 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 175bhp. These engines provide strong performance, both on highways and rough terrains, allowing consumers to select according to their driving requirements.
