Kia Hybrid Car – The Indian auto market is now clearly dividing into two parts – petrol-diesel on one side and electrified vehicles on the other. After EV, the hybrid segment is now rapidly gaining attention and Kia is preparing to capitalize on this opportunity. The company is planning to launch its first hybrid car in India by the end of 2026. The special thing is that this model will be assembled in India itself, which will keep the price under control and it will directly compete with premium SUVs like Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron.

Sorento Hybrid

Sorento Hybrid is at the forefront of Kia’s first hybrid offering. It is the same global D-segment SUV, which has been selling in international markets since 2020 and its facelift has also arrived in 2023. Hyundai Santa Fe was previously present in this segment, and now Sorento Hybrid is preparing to fill the same empty space.

Design

The Sorento Hybrid’s design is based on the theme of “Refined Boldness.” From the front, the high bonnet, large 3D-mesh radiator grille, and EV9-inspired vertical headlamps give it a strong road presence. Star Map DRLs and vertical tail-lamps add a modern touch to the SUV, while 20-inch alloy wheels and roof rails further enhance its premium character.

Interior

Talking about the interior, the upscale nature of Sorrento Hybrid is clearly seen as soon as it steps into the cabin. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on the dashboard and the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system are delivered in a curved panel, which gives a futuristic feel.

Combination of vertical and horizontal air vents, square-circle shape center pads with dual-function capacitive touch panels and three-spoke steering wheels — all make the interior premium. Wood-grain and metal inserts give a luxury touch to the doors and dashboard. It is expected to have a 7-seater version in India, which will be a big plus for family buyers.

Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 177 hp and 265 Nm of torque. It is paired with a PMSM electric motor that produces 64 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Power is derived from a 1.49 kWh battery pack, and a 6-speed automatic transmission is standard.

In total, this setup produces 236 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The SUV accelerates from 0-100 km/h in about 9 seconds, while the top speed reaches 196 km/h. In electric mode, it can be driven up to 120 km/h. According to WLTP, the fuel economy is around 15 km/l.

Price and Competition

Due to local assembly in India, Kia will aim to keep the Sorento Hybrid’s price competitive. It will compete directly with the Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming VW Tayron. Hybrid technology, premium features, and Kia’s brand value could make it a strong contender.
