FASTag: The Ministry of Road Transport is introducing a new Annual FASTag Pass from 15th August. The pass aims at lowering the cost of toll on national highways and expressways and is expected to bring significant savings for private car owners. It can be used by buyers for 200 toll crossings or one year, whichever is earlier.
Cost and Savings
Annual FASTag Pass would be available for ₹3,000. Once the driver has bought it, he can drive across 200 toll plazas without incurring the normal hefty fees. Currently, it costs more than ₹50 per crossing on average, which would be around ₹10,000 for 200 crossings. With this pass, the price comes down to ₹3,000, which saves one about ₹7,000 a year. It becomes a cheaper proposition for heavy highway users.
Who Can Buy
This pass can be bought by the owners of private vehicles only. Cars, jeeps, and vans are eligible to buy this pass. The owners of buses, trucks, or commercial taxis cannot obtain this pass.
Vehicle-Specific Use
After it’s purchased, the Annual FASTag Pass will be attached to a registered vehicle. It cannot be transferred or utilized for another car. This pass is valid for a single vehicle for which it was purchased only.
Where It Works
This pass is applicable only on highways and expressways operated by NHAI or the Ministry of Road Transport. State highways, city toll roads, and state-operated expressways are excluded. Drivers will have to pay tolls separately on those roads.
No Refund Policy
The Yearly FASTag Pass cannot be returned after purchase. There is no refund facility, even if you don’t utilize it to the full. After one-year validity gets over, purchasers need to buy a new pass.
How to Buy
To purchase the pass, sign in to the Rajmarg Yatra app, NHAI website, or MoRTH website with your vehicle number and FASTag ID. The FASTag should be active and correctly installed. ₹3,000 payment can be done using UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.
