Chery iCar V23: JSW Motors Plans Affordable Electric SUV With 500 Km Driving Range

The country’s leading industrial house, the JSW Group, is preparing to launch a unique and aggressive-looking all-electric SUV on Indian roads under its new automotive wing, “JSW Motors.” The JSW Chery iCar V23, developed in a global partnership with Chinese automaker Chery, has recently been spotted testing on Indian roads, now heavily camouflaged.

Equipped with impressive road presence, a range of approximately 500 kilometers, and powerful all-wheel drive (AWD) technology for off-roading, this vehicle is set to add a completely new and high-tech dimension to the travel of adventure enthusiasts in the country.

Design and Style

According to recent media reports and spy shots, the upcoming test unit spotted on Indian roads was completely covered in stickers, but its muscular body still revealed its strong presence from a distance. The SUV’s design is completely boxy and upright, reminiscent of the global powerhouse Mercedes G-Class and Toyota’s classic FJ Cruiser.

The front end features classic round LED headlights and a strongly sculpted hood to enhance its aggressive appearance. The side profile features large wheel arches, massive alloy wheels, and a distinctive footboard for boarding and deboarding.

To give the rear of the car a rugged look, the tailgate features a distinctive geometric box or jerry-can-style external storage compartment, which can be used to store charging cables or tools. Furthermore, the lower-mounted LED taillights, just above the bumper, add a unique and futuristic look.

The cabin of this powerful off-roader SUV is a perfect blend of modern technology and practicality. Large glass windows provide a panoramic view for passengers, ensuring a seamless view without the slightest hint of suffocation. A large floating touchscreen infotainment system sits in the center of the dashboard, serving as the nerve center for all the car’s key functions and supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay without any wireless connection.

To ensure passenger safety and balance during rough terrain and off-roading, robust grab handles are provided on all four doors and on the dashboard. Inside, the cabin is expected to feature rectangular AC vents, a digital driver’s display, a wireless charging pad, and comfortable seats with premium contrast stitching, which will double the ride’s thrill.

Battery Options & Driving Range

On the performance front, the JSW Cherry iCar V23 fully lives up to its rugged looks. While the company is currently keeping details of its Indian variants under wraps, global market data suggests customers will likely find two highly powerful options.

The base model, with its rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant, is expected to feature a battery pack of approximately 60 kWh, offering a proven range of approximately 400 kilometers on a single charge for everyday urban needs and moderate highway trips.

On the other hand, for adventure and speed enthusiasts, its all-wheel drive (AWD) variant will feature a larger lithium-ion battery pack, estimated at around 80 kWh. This variant will come with a dual motor setup, delivering powerful power to all four wheels simultaneously.

This massive powerhouse will easily deliver a real-world range of approximately 500 kilometers on a single full charge, eliminating the stress of charging during long-distance journeys.

India Launch Timing and Expected Price

Since JSW Motors is currently strengthening its software and technical infrastructure locally for the Indian market, the SUV’s official arrival in India is expected to take place in late 2026 or early 2027. Due to local assembly, the company can keep its starting price within the very competitive ₹16 lakh to ₹20 lakh ex-showroom range.

As soon as it hits the market, this SUV with a magical look is going to face direct and sharp competition from the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, and MG ZS EV.
