Bajaj Auto is about to shake the EV segment again. Having rolled out the Chetak 3503 successfully in April 2025, the carmaker is now planning to bring out an even more affordable electric scooter. The new entry-level model is going to be the most affordable in the Chetak lineup and is all set to officially launch later this month. Let’s find out what this new scooter has to give.
Drawn from Best-Selling 2903 Variant
The new car will be based on Bajaj’s top-selling Chetak 2903, whose price is currently at ₹99,998 (ex-showroom). The 2903 version has been the backbone of the electric business so far. The new one, though placed below the 3503, should retain the trusted and proven core but with new upgrades for enhanced practicality and desirability.
New Features and Expected Improvements
Bajaj aims to offer more than just affordability. The new entry-level Chetak will probably have upgrades over the present 2903 variant. These may include a longer riding range and design updates taken from the Chetak 35 series. The frame could also receive a revamp, putting it on an equal footing with the 35 series platform having a wider floor and improved under-seat storage with a battery pack mounted under.
EV Expansion and Market Strategy
The Chetak range has aided Bajaj in gaining a dominant position in India’s electric two-wheeler market. With 25% of domestic top-line revenue now contributed by EV sales, Bajaj is setting sights on more growth in this segment. The Chetak e-scooters emerged as the best-selling electric models in the fourth quarter of FY 2025. The latest launch will be expected to generate even higher volume as Bajaj aims for 20-25% growth in the EV segment by FY 2026.
Launch Timeline and Pricing Plans
The end of June 2025 will see the launch of the new entry-level Chetak electric scooter. Bajaj is expected to price it below the ₹99,998 mark to maintain its competitive edge. The price may place it as the least expensive model in the Chetak lineup, appealing to budget-conscious urban riders.
Possible Launch Postponement Due to Supply Chain Issues
Despite all the hype, there is a potential hitch when it comes to launch planning. Bajaj has conveyed concerns over supply chain problems, specifically rare earth magnets used in electric motors. These problems may introduce small time gaps in the market rollout of the scooter. But until now, no word on delay is forthcoming.
