Brahma Muhurat Importance: Why Premanand Maharaj Says Waking Up Late Blocks Spiritual Growth

Brahma Muhurat Importance: Vrindavan’s well-known saint and the ardent devotee of Thakur ji and Radha Rani, Baba Premanand Maharaj, is widely respected for his spiritual discourses. His pravachans often offer practical solutions to everyday life problems. During one such satsang, a devotee asked him a relatable but straightforward question: “I struggle to wake up early in the morning. What should I do?”

Responding to this, Premanand Maharaj said that if a person wakes up as late as 6:30 AM out of laziness, it clearly indicates that they are not practising true brahmacharya. According to scriptures and great saints, anyone who sleeps between 4 AM and 6 AM can never become a complete brahmachari.

He further clarified that those who stay awake till 2 or 3 AM for bhajan or devotion are exceptions — for them, waking up late is understandable. But if someone sleeps during Brahma Muhurat, that is, between 4 AM and 6 AM, then it becomes spiritually harmful. Such a person may attend satsang or chant mantras regularly, but as long as they sleep during this sacred window, they cannot experience actual spiritual progress.

Waking Up in Brahma Muhurat Is True Worship

Premanand Maharaj added that those who rise during Brahma Muhurat naturally receive divine blessings. The time between 4 AM and 6 AM is considered spiritually charged and deeply powerful. Engaging in bhajan or meditation during these hours brings inner strength, clarity and peace.

Why Brahma Muhurat Holds Such Importance

In Hindu philosophy, Brahma Muhurat is regarded as one of the most auspicious periods of the day. The term means “the time of the Divine.” It is also known as Akshay Muhurat because any spiritual act performed at this time is believed to confer everlasting benefits.

Meditating on your Ishta Devata, chanting mantras with your eyes closed, or starting your day with purity after a bath during these hours is considered highly beneficial. This sacred time enhances focus, sharpens the mind, purifies consciousness and nurtures spiritual growth.
