Price Hike: If you’re thinking about purchasing home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines during Diwali and Dussehra, be prepared for a noticeable price increase driven by inflation. Leading up to Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, expect air conditioners (ACs), smart LED TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines to jump in price by 5 to 8 percent. Major brands like Blue Star, Godrej Appliances, Haier, Daikin, and Super Plastronics have already started raising prices on select items. The reason? Electronics manufacturers are dealing with soaring raw material costs and climbing logistics expenses that are forcing their hand.

According to industry leaders, the sharp increase in production expenses leaves them with little choice but to raise their prices. Raw materials like copper, aluminum, steel, plastic, and oil-based components have hit all-time highs. Copper prices in the global market have surged from roughly $8,000–9,000 per tonne last year to approximately $14,500 per tonne. Since a typical AC unit needs 3 to 4 kilograms of copper, this directly pushes up manufacturing expenses. Currency fluctuations between the rupee and dollar, combined with higher shipping fees, have squeezed company profits significantly.

ACs are set to get 8% pricier while TVs will see a 4% bump

Major players including Blue Star, Godrej Appliances, Haier, Daikin, and Super Plastronics have rolled out price hikes across their product ranges. LG and Bosch Home Comfort, which distributes Hitachi air conditioners, have also bumped up AC prices by roughly five percent. Panasonic is currently evaluating whether to implement price increases.

Blue Star’s Managing Director B. Thiagarajan explained that climbing commodity prices have already led to price increases of five to eight percent for ACs and deep freezers. He noted that costs for various raw materials—including copper, steel, and plastic—have climbed significantly, and the company has adjusted prices three times throughout the year.

Godrej is also raising prices

Kamal Nandi, Business Head and Executive Vice President of Godrej Enterprises Group, shared that commodity expenses have gone up by 8 to 10 percent since the previous price adjustment. As a result, a price hike of 5 to 7 percent across different product lines is unavoidable. That said, he mentioned that items bought at the earlier price point should still be available in stores for roughly one to one and a half months.

Haier will bump up TV and washing machine costs next month

Haier India President N.S. Satish announced the company will raise air conditioner prices by roughly five percent starting October 1. Costs for other items, including LED TVs and washing machines, will jump by two to three percent as well. He noted that if raw material expenses keep climbing, there could be additional price adjustments in December and January.

According to Satish, copper prices have climbed from around $8,000-9,000 per ton last year to approximately $14,500. Since a typical air conditioner needs three to four kilograms of copper, this is directly affecting how much it costs to manufacture ACs.

Daikin has already raised prices

Kanwaljeet Jawa, Chairman and Managing Director of Daikin Air Conditioning India, noted the company has bumped up prices by eight to 10 percent since September 16th. He pointed out that copper costs have jumped by roughly 25 to 35 percent, and the stronger dollar has added even more pressure on company expenses. Meanwhile, Super Plastronics Private Limited (SPPL) is planning to raise TV prices by around seven percent after October. The company notes that costs for other household appliances have already gone up by four to five percent.

Will TVs and refrigerators become pricier this Diwali?

The sector is also worried that price hikes might affect holiday shopping. Consumer electronics and home appliance sales typically peak between Navratri and Diwali, when companies roll out great discounts and special offers. In this situation, steeper prices could impact cust
