Aadhaar Update: UIDAI has just released a new app for Aadhaar cards. This new app allows you to update your address on your Aadhaar card conveniently from home without requiring any address proof. You can still update your Aadhaar card even if you lack documentation to verify your new address. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new functionality for this aim.
This function permits address modifications following approval from the Head of Family (HoF). In the past, proof of address was necessary for an address update, but now numerous individuals will be free from this burden. This functionality is particularly beneficial for individuals lacking any home or lease documents in their name. Kids, pupils, partners, guardians, and other relatives can utilize this option. If the family head agrees to provide their address, other members can similarly update that address on their Aadhaar cards.
This simplifies the process of updating the address compared to earlier. As per UIDAI rules, any individual who is 18 years or older can assume the role of a family head. The HoF can provide their address to family members, needing their approval. The whole procedure will be conducted online, and an OTP will be delivered to the HoF’s mobile device. The new address will be updated in Aadhaar only after the OTP approval is received.
If you possess evidence of the relationship, it needs to be uploaded online. This may be accomplished using a ration card, marriage certificate, passport, marksheet, or any other document that displays the names and relationship of both the applicant and the HoF. If such a document is unavailable, the family head may finalize the process by providing a self-declaration.
Easy online process to update address in Aadhaar
Initially, visit the My Aadhaar portal and choose the option to update your address. Next, input the Aadhaar number for the HoF. Submit relationship proof and pay the Rs 75 charge. After the payment is finalized, you will obtain a Service Request Number (SRN). A text message will additionally be dispatched to the HoF’s mobile number for their review of your request. Following the request submission, the family head needs to access the My Aadhaar portal within 30 days to accept or deny it.
If the HoF grants approval promptly, UIDAI will finalize the next steps, and the Aadhaar card will reflect the new address. Hence, it is crucial to notify the HoF promptly following the request submission. If the HoF fails to decide within 30 days or rejects the request, your request to update the address will be automatically closed. A text message alert will be dispatched. Crucially, the Rs 75 fee paid in this case is non-recoverable. Consequently, kindly discuss with the family head and obtain their consent prior to submitting the request.
