This innings has moved him to No. 3 on the list of players with the most international centuries in a losing cause. He broke the record held by former West Indies opener Chris Gayle. Kohli has now scored 16 international centuries in a losing cause. This is Kohli’s 54th ODI century and his 85th in international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar tops the list of most centuries scored in a team’s loss, with 25. Brian Lara is second, with 17 centuries in a team’s loss. Kohli is now third, with 16 centuries. Chris Gayle is fourth, with 15 centuries. India scored 337 runs in the Indore ODI. Chasing the target, Team India lost their first four wickets for 71 runs. Virat Kohli and Nitish Kumar Reddy (53) then added 88 runs for the fifth wicket, followed by Harshit Rana’s 52 off 43 balls.
Hopes of victory were raised from here. Harshit added 99 runs for the seventh wicket with Kohli, but then Virat Kohli was dismissed, and Team India lost. With this defeat, Team India lost the series 1-2. This was New Zealand’s first ODI series win on Indian soil. The Kiwis have been playing here since 1989, but it took them 37 years to win their first series.
