Monsoon Update: North India is experiencing severe weather conditions today, with dense fog and intense cold. A thick blanket of fog has covered areas from Delhi-NCR to Punjab and Bihar, completely disrupting normal life. Zero visibility has brought train services to a standstill and affected several flights. Due to the biting cold, people have reduced their outdoor activities. According to the IMD, an alert has been issued for rain in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and heavy snowfall in the plains.
The Meteorological Department reports that dense fog has been observed in large parts of North India, including Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. The IMD has also issued a rain alert for South India. A thick layer of dense fog has covered the Delhi-NCR region, reducing visibility and increasing the likelihood of road accidents.

Airport and Airline Warnings for Passengers
Due to the dense fog, several airlines, including those operating at Delhi Airport, have issued passenger advisories. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before leaving home. Dozens of long-distance trains are running several hours behind schedule due to the fog.
Weather in the Mountains
Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are experiencing harsh weather conditions. The 28-day period of intense cold, known as ‘Chilla Kalan’, has ended in the valley. Srinagar’s temperature has dropped to -4 degrees Celsius, while Shopian recorded -5.6 degrees Celsius. Fresh snow has fallen in tourist destinations such as Manali, Kullu, and Chamba.
Rain and Snowfall in These States
According to the IMD, three consecutive Western Disturbances are becoming active, which will affect the entire Northwest India. The Meteorological Department has predicted light rainfall in some parts of Punjab on January 18, 19, and 22. In addition, light rain is also expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh on January 19th.
