Major Blow for Pensioners, Pension Offices to Close from This Date, Know Why?

Pension Update: A major problem has arisen for approximately five lakh pensioners in Madhya Pradesh. The government has decided that all district pension offices in the state will be closed from April 1, 2026.  After this, pensioners will have to travel all the way to the state capital, Bhopal, to resolve even minor issues. The Pensioners’ Grievance Redressal Association Committee has strongly objected to this move and demanded that it be stopped.

Pensioners will have to travel to Bhopal

Pensioners across the state say that most of them are elderly, and traveling to the capital will be difficult for them. Traveling long distances to resolve minor issues will create a financial and mental burden. The association committee has emphasized that if the offices were maintained at the district level, pensioners would not have to face such difficulties.

Only one centralized office will remain

According to the government’s decision, all district pension offices will be closed, and only one centralized pension office will be opened in Bhopal. However, online services will continue to be available for pensioners, allowing them to resolve their issues digitally.

The committee’s suggestion

Members of the Pensioners’ Grievance Redressal Association Committee believe that this decision was taken due to a lack of uniformity in the working procedures of the district offices. The committee suggests that the problem could have been resolved at the district level by providing proper training to the officials. This would have prevented financial and physical strain on the pensioners and ensured more accessible services.
