PM Fasal Bima Yojana: In the winter season, frost, falling temperatures, and fog damage standing crops in many states. In addition, natural disasters such as floods, hailstorms, droughts, and unseasonal rains also ruin the hard work of farmers. When crops are destroyed, farmers suffer direct financial losses. Considering this problem, the central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme) to provide financial support to farmers in case of crop failure.

Objective of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

The objective of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is to protect farmers from losses caused by natural calamities and to stabilize their income. Under this scheme, farmers can insure their crops by paying a low premium and claim compensation in case of damage. However, due to a lack of information, many farmers still do not benefit from this scheme.

What is the Crop Insurance Mobile App?

To alleviate the problems faced by farmers, the Central Ministry of Agriculture has launched the Crop Insurance Mobile App. With the help of this app, farmers can find out which crops are covered under the insurance scheme in their area. The app provides complete information related to crop premiums, coverage amounts, and claims. This saves farmers from having to visit different offices.

How does the Crop Insurance App work?

Farmers can download this app from the Play Store on their smartphones. If a farmer’s crop is damaged due to floods, frost, or any other disaster, they can register a complaint through the app within 72 hours of the incident. As soon as the complaint is registered, the crop insurance company receives the information, and the claim process begins. Farmers can also inform the concerned insurance company separately if they wish.

Process of getting crop insurance through the app

Using the Crop Insurance app is very easy. The farmer first has to log in to the app and go to the ‘Know Your Insurance’ option. After that, they have to select the Rabi or Kharif season. Then they have to fill in the information about the state, district, and area of cultivation. After this, farmers can find out how much premium they need to pay through the premium calculation feature. The app also includes a question-and-answer section for obtaining additional information.
