The Magh Mela 2026 has begun with a grand ceremony on the sacred land of Prayagraj. Starting January 3rd, a wave of faith has overflowed onto the sands of the Sangam, with millions of devotees arriving from across the country to take a holy dip. In view of this massive influx of devotees, the Indian Railways has taken a highly commendable and decisive decision.
To avoid stampedes at stations and ensure passengers can reach the Sangam without any hassle, the Railways has initiated temporary stoppages for several long-distance trains at Jhunsi and Rambagh stations.

Railway Arrangements for Devotees
Every year, the millions of Kalpvasis and pilgrims who come to the Magh Mela put a tremendous strain on the main railway stations. This time, the Railway administration has taken timely action and designated two important sub-stations in the city—Prayagraj Rambagh and Jhunsi—as the main hubs. Many important trains arriving from Bihar, Maharashtra, and Delhi will now stop at these stations.
This will eliminate the need for passengers to travel to the main Prayagraj Junction and allow them to disembark closer to the fair. This masterstroke by the Railways will play a vital role in crowd management, providing special relief to the elderly and children coming to bathe in the Sangam.

These major trains will have temporary halts
The trains for which the Railways have made significant changes to their routes and stoppages for the convenience of pilgrims include major trains on the Bihar and Mumbai routes. The 11062 Pawan Express from Jaynagar and the 11061 Pawan Express from Lokmanya Tilak will now stop at both Jhunsi and Rambagh stations. Similarly, the 14005/14006 Lichchavi Express from Sitamarhi to Anand Vihar will also have a temporary halt here.
The 12561/12562 Swatantrata Senani Express, the most popular train on the Delhi route, will also stop at these two smaller stations, directly benefiting passengers from Delhi and Bihar. Additionally, the 11033/11034 Pune-Darbhanga Express, the Raxaul-Lokmanya Tilak 15267/15268 Antyodaya Express, and the Darbhanga-Ahmedabad 15559/15560 Antyodaya Express have also received approval to stop at Jhunsi and Rambagh stations.

Why Jhunsi and Rambagh Stations Are Options
Prayagraj’s Rambagh and Jhunsi stations are located very close to the Mela area. The distance from Jhunsi station to Sangam is quite short, allowing pilgrims to reach the Mela ground directly on foot or by local transport. The main Prayagraj Junction is currently extremely crowded, so getting off at these sub-stations can help avoid the city traffic and junction chaos. The Railways has deployed security forces at these stations and opened additional ticket counters to ensure passengers do not face any difficulties during their return journey.
Preparations for Magh Mela Special Trains
In addition to these temporary stoppages, the Railways has also planned to run several special trains for the Magh Mela. These trains will operate specifically during major bathing festivals such as Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami.

The Railways’ goal is to ensure that no pilgrims are stranded at stations after taking a dip in the Sangam. For passenger convenience, steel water booths, restrooms, and medical camps have also been arranged at stations.
