The ration system is a very important issue for the common people of West Bengal. A major change is going to come in the ration distribution system from the beginning of 2026. This news is very important, especially for those who have central government ration cards. According to the new guidelines of the Food Department, the allocation of rice and wheat is being changed from next January. However, there is relief news for the cardholders of the state government’s own scheme. In this report, we will discuss in detail what changes are coming in which card.

Ration items will be distributed under the current rules till December 2025. That is, there are only a few days left. After that, the new rules will come into effect from January 2026. It is good for consumers to know that even though the allocation amount has changed, the policy of providing all items completely free of cost will continue. Currently, there are five types of cards in use in the state – AAY, PHH, SPHH and the state government’s RKSY-1 and RKSY-2. Let’s take a look at the list of changes according to the card.

New rules for Antardaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards

Allowed for the poorest families, the distribution of goods in this Antardaya or AAY card is done per family, not according to the number of members. The quantity of rice has been reduced and the quantity of wheat has been increased in this card.

Major changes in PHH and SPHH cards

In the case of Priority (PHH) and Special Priority (SPHH) cards, ration is given on a per capita basis. The central government has decided to reduce the rice quota and increase the wheat quota in both these categories of cards.

The and, as rice was once 3 ago but will reduce rice as of January 2026 to by 2kg on average, with the current weight of wheat 3 before 2 was available to per average.

By Initially, flour grain was given as 0.9 of the 1kg wheat grain standard. As follows therefore is now as follows.

  • Rice – The old Amount of 3 kg must now be 2 kg average as of Feb 2026.
  • (Flour has been substituted to produce wheat).

Wheat has switched from 1kg (900g). Two additional Kg of flour will produce use 2 of Kg and 850g.

  • RKSY-1 Card: Beneficiaries will get 5 kg of rice free per capita as before.
  • RKSY-2 Card: 2 kg of rice free per capita will also be available in this card.
  • It is to be noted that wheat or flour is not provided in these two state cards, only rice is allotted.
