Having a house of one’s own is everyone’s dream. But fulfilling this dream is not easy. Often people achieve this dream through their hard-earned savings. On the other hand, some schemes of the government are proving to be very effective in realizing this dream.
Now the Narendra Modi government at the center is preparing to take a big step to realize this dream for the economically weaker sections of the people. The direct beneficiary of this will be the middle class people. Let’s find out how this facility can be availed now.
The Pradhan Mantri Grameen Awas Yojana of the Modi government is proving to be a big facility for the middle class people across the country to fulfill their dream of a house. The government claims that this scheme is especially effective for the middle class and economically weaker sections.
Most people take home loans to buy a house and pay high interest rates (EMIs) for a long period of time. This is why many give up hope of buying a house. For such people, the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Awas Yojana of the Modi government has brought relief.
Last year, in 2024, the central government approved the Awas Yojana-Nagar (PMAY-U) 2.0. Under this scheme, it has been decided to provide interest subsidy to people from the middle class, economically weaker and low income groups for buying their first home.
Who will get the subsidy, how much and what are the conditions?
The central government will provide interest subsidy under the Awas Yojana-Nagar (PMAY-U 2.0). This subsidy will be applicable only for houses worth up to Rs 35 lakh. However, for such houses, the condition is that your loan amount should be Rs 25 lakh or less. If the loan tenure is 12 years, then 4 percent interest subsidy will also be available on a loan of Rs 8 lakh.
How to check if your name is in the beneficiary list?
If the name of an eligible person is excluded from the list, they can apply through the PMAY-U 2.0 portal or by visiting their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). Documents like Aadhaar card, name proof in BPL/SECC list and bank account details are required.
The application is completely free and the approval is based on the government’s priority list, which is updated every year. Beneficiaries can check their names in the PMAY-U 2025 list online or through mobile phone even without registration number.
Visit the official website of PMAY-G, pmayg.nic.in. Click on the ‘Stakeholders’ section and select ‘IAY/PMAYG Beneficiaries’ or ‘Search Beneficiaries’. If you do not have a registration number, click on ‘Advanced Search’ and select your state, district, block and village. Enter the captcha and click ‘Submit’. – Doing so will bring up a list of all the beneficiaries in your village on the screen, which will include important information related to approval status and installments.
