UPI: Another major good news is here for central government employees. NIPL, the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has launched the Indian Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Malaysia in partnership with Malaysian payment gateway Razorpay Curlec. Indian travelers will now be able to transact directly in Malaysia using their favorite UPI apps, such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm.

Advantages of the facility

This new initiative will relieve Indian tourists of the hassle of currency exchange and the additional fees associated with foreign credit and debit cards. Furthermore, Malaysian merchants will be able to receive payments directly and instantly from Indian customers, simplifying and speeding up business transactions.

Global expansion of UPI

This agreement with Malaysia plays a key role in expanding India’s digital payments footprint to nine countries. UPI can now be used in France, the UAE, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Qatar, and Malaysia, strengthening India’s digital revolution globally, including in Asia.

Expert opinion

Razorpay co-founder Shashank Kumar said, “UPI has completely transformed the way payments are made in India. Now we’re taking that innovation and trust to Malaysia.” NIPL CEO Ritesh Shukla called the partnership a major step in expanding India’s global payments network.

This initiative will not only simplify payment facilities for Indian travelers but also help Malaysian businesses gain a greater share of the Indian tourism market. UPI is planned to expand to other countries in the future, creating a comprehensive network of cross-border digital financial services.
