Recently, the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB) shared some of the special rules of Indian Railway on their official handle. If you follow these rules while traveling by train, you will not have any problem even if you don’t buy a ticket

What to do if you board a train without a ticket

If you board a train without a ticket, you can buy one inside the train. For this, contact the ticket inspector or TTE and tell him your situation. The TTE has a machine that can issue tickets. In this case, you will need to pay the ticket price plus an extra fine of ₹250.

How the TTE machine works

The TTE’s machine is connected to the Railway Passenger Reservation System server. When a passenger buys a ticket, it becomes valid on the railway server. The machine also shows which seats are available.

If a passenger has a waiting list ticket, they can show it to the TTE to confirm their seat.

You can also buy tickets for local trains using the UTS app on your phone. However, this app works only for local train tickets.

When you book tickets for long-distance mail or express trains, you get a PNR number. This number helps you check if your train ticket is confirmed or not.
