PAN Card Update: The PAN card is one of the most important documents for financial transactions in India. Whether opening a bank account, filing income tax returns, or investing in the stock market, a PAN card is required everywhere. Now, the Income Tax Department has launched the ‘Instant e-PAN Service,’ through which anyone can obtain their e-PAN card online in just a few minutes. This service is completely digital, secure, and free.
What is an e-PAN card?
The e-PAN is a Permanent Account Number issued in electronic format, a 10-digit alphanumeric code. It is issued by the Income Tax Department directly based on Aadhaar data. Its digital form is as valid as a regular PAN card and can be used for all government and financial transactions.

How to get an e-PAN card?
First, you need to visit the Income Tax Department’s official website, https://www.incometax.gov.in/.
On the homepage, in the ‘Quick Links’ section, you’ll find the ‘Instant e-PAN’ option. Click on ‘Get New e-PAN’. Afterward, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and accept the terms and conditions. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, which you’ll need to enter to complete Aadhaar verification.
The system will extract your name, date of birth, photo, and address from your Aadhaar. After approving this information, you’ll receive an Acknowledgment Number. Your e-PAN will be generated and sent to your registered email address within a few minutes. You can also download it from the portal if you wish.
Process to Download e-PAN
If you’ve already created an e-PAN and want to download it, go back to the ‘Instant e-PAN’ section and click on ‘Download PAN’. Enter your Aadhaar number, enter the OTP, and your e-PAN will be available for download in PDF format.
Difference between e-PAN and regular PAN
The e-PAN card can be used everywhere, just like a regular PAN card. Both have the same importance and validity. The advantage of e-PAN is that it is issued instantly and does not require a hard copy of any document. If you want a printed version, you can reprint it from the NSDL website.
