LPG Gas Now at Just ₹500: Government Approves 25 Lakh More Subsidised Connections

By July 2025, more than 10 crore 33 lakh PMUY connections were delivered throughout the country, making it one of the largest clean energy initiatives in the world. Now, the central government has sanctioned 25 lakh additional PMUY connections. This will bring the total number of PMUY subscribers to 10 crore 58 lakh.

Government has sanctioned these 25 lakh more cooking gas connections specifically under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the financial year (2025-26). This is a significant step towards the empowerment of women.

The government has provided an allocation of Rs 676 crore for this additional initiative which includes Rs 512.5 crore for the provision of 25 lakh deposit-free connections at Rs 2,050 per connection, Rs 160 crore for a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, and Rs 35 crore for Project Management, transaction and SMS charges, awareness campaigns and administrative expenditures.

Government Authorizes 25 Lakh LPG Connections Without A Deposit

Making the announcement on Monday, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “With the commencement of Navratri, providing 25 lakh LPG connections without deposit under Ujjwala Yojana represents the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to honour women like Goddess Durga. This will bolster our commitment to empower mothers and sisters. The Ujjwala scheme has become one of the most impactful social welfare schemes in the country, transforming kitchens, protecting health, and brightening the future for families all over the country.”

PMUY Goals

Launched in May 2016, the PMUY was originally established to issue 8 crore LPG connections without deposit, a goal which was met by September 2019. To provide more LPG coverage to poor families, Ujjwala 2.0 was launched in August 2021 with a goal of issuing an additional 1 crore connections without deposit by January 2022. Afterwards, the government approved an additional 60 lakh connections under Ujjwala 2.0, which were completed by December 2022, along with an additional 7.5 lakh connections expected to be completed by July 2024. By July 2025, more than 10 crore 33 lakh PMUY connections would have been issued in the country.
