New Delhi: The Indian cricket team defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup T20 title clash. Indian team captain Surya Kumar Yadav dedicated the victory to the martyrs of Pahalgam and the army that displayed bravery and courage in Operation Sindoor. The question is, even a month after the victory, the Indian team has not received the actual trophy.
The trophy is kept at the headquarters of the Dubai organisation, but it has not yet been handed over to India. The trophy awaits its winners, but the stubbornness of Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Mohsin Naqvi has kept it away from the Indian players. The PCB chief is adamant on personally handing over the trophy to India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India and all the players are not happy with this. Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team’s explosive batsman Tilak Verma has made a significant statement.
Tilak Verma made a significant statement.
The Indian team, which won the Asia Cup T20 title, did not accept the trophy from the PCB chief, sparking a new controversy. Tilak Verma, who was the Player of the Match in the final match, recalled the incident on September 28th when India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
In fact, the post-match presentation on the night of the final was delayed by almost an hour due to secret negotiations between Naqvi and the Indian management. Naqvi refused to give the trophy to anyone else, and as a result, India did not win the title. Ultimately, India celebrated with a fictitious trophy. Arshdeep Singh was busy making the reel. He was busy. We were just waiting, thinking, ‘The trophy will arrive any day now.’
Arshdeep said, ‘Let’s create an atmosphere,’ Verma said
Tilak Verma said, ‘Arshdeep Singh said, ‘Let’s create an atmosphere.’ He said we should celebrate like the 2024 T20 World Cup, just without the trophy. Abhishek Sharma and I, along with 5-6 others, agreed. Then we took it forward.’
BCCI writes a letter to ACC
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote a letter to the ACC demanding that Naqvi hand over the trophy. Pakistan’s Home Minister retorted, saying India could claim the title provided someone from their top officials or management came to Dubai to collect it from Naqvi.
