Bonus: The Modi government at the centre has opened its coffers for employees ahead of Diwali. The government has announced productivity-linked bonuses, bringing much joy to everyone’s faces. According to the Finance Ministry, in an order issued on Monday, it announced an ad-hoc bonus equivalent to 30 days for central government Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees for the years 2024 and 2025.
The amount has been set at ₹6,908. This bonus will be provided to all employees who are employed as of March 31, 2025, meaning they have worked continuously for six months. However, if someone does not work for the entire year, they can still receive the bonus based on the number of months worked.
Learn who will receive the bonus?
The Modi government’s bonus will be given to employees who remain in service as of March 31, 2025, having worked for at least six consecutive months. Additionally, if an employee has served for a full year, they will receive a bonus of ₹6,908. Furthermore, employees who have not worked for the full 12 months will receive a pro-rata bonus.
This means that the bonus amount will be paid based on the number of months they served. Eligible employees of the Central Paramilitary Forces and the Armed Forces are also included in this scheme. However, employees who are employed on the Central Government pay structure and are not eligible for any other bonus or ex gratia will also receive the direct benefit.
How will the bonus be calculated?
Employees may be wondering how the bonus will be calculated. The bonus will be calculated based on a maximum monthly salary of ₹7,000. For example, a 30-day bonus will be calculated on a salary of ₹7,000. 7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = ₹6,907.89 (rounded to ₹6,908). There must be certain conditions for this.
This requires the employee to remain in service. Furthermore, if an employee retired, resigned, or died before March 31, 2025, they will be given partial benefits based on a minimum six-month service period. Employees who are on deputation to another organisation will be paid the bonus by their current organisation.
