What changes have been made to GST
Last month, the central government announced a reduction in GST on vehicles, which came into effect on September 22nd, the first day of Navratri. Under the new changes, vehicles with petrol engines up to 1200 cc and diesel engines up to 1500 cc, or vehicles under 4 meters in length, will now be charged only 18 percent GST.
Previously, these vehicles were subject to 28 percent GST plus a 1 percent cess. On the other hand, vehicles over 4 meters in length will now be subject to a 40 percent GST. Previously, these vehicles were taxed at around 45-50 percent, including 28 percent GST and cess. Both the Altroz and Baleno fall into the sub-4 meter category, so their prices have been reduced.
