Earthquake Hits India: Did you feel a slight shaking while lying in bed this morning? If yes, then you were not alone! Today, on the morning of July 19, 2025, the Earth shook in many parts of the world, and its effects were also felt in Uttarakhand, our beloved India. Let’s know what happened…
Earthquake tremors felt in Uttarakhand: No need to panic too much!
When we were getting our sleep early in the morning, some people in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, felt a mild tremor from the earthquake. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), its magnitude was measured at 3.3, which is not very strong. The relief was that the earthquake occurred at a depth of only 10 kilometres below the ground.
NCS is a reliable government body that monitors seismic activities in India. An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 is usually mild, and the chances of causing large-scale damage are low. The depth of 10 kilometres is also relatively less.

Let us remind you that on July 8, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. That tremor occurred at 1:07 pm and was at a depth of 5 kilometres. This shows that Uttarakhand is an earthquake-sensitive area, but small tremors keep coming often.
The ground shook outside India as well: Earthquakes also occurred in Myanmar and Afghanistan.
Not only India, but the ground shook in our neighbouring countries as well. The National Centre for Seismology said that an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude was felt in Myanmar, but its depth was relatively high (105 kilometres). The greater the depth, the less its effect is felt on the surface.
EQ of M: 4.0, On: 19/07/2025 02:11:14 IST, Lat: 36.28 N, Long: 71.26 E, Depth: 125 Km, Location: Afghanistan.

On the other hand, people in Afghanistan also got a little scared due to the 4.2 magnitude earthquake. Afghanistan is also an earthquake-sensitive area.
