The recommendations made by the 8th Pay Commission are expected to directly benefit more than 10 million individuals nationwide, comprising around 5 million active central government employees and approximately 6.5 million pensioners. The following details the key points from the full list of the 8th CPC:

Constitution and timeframe of the 8th Pay Commission:

• The 8th Pay Commission will be a temporary body, consisting of a Chairperson, a part-time Member, and a Member-Secretary.

  • The review will encompass the gratuity for employees under the National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
  •  A comprehensive evaluation of gratuity and monthly pensions for employees not covered by NPS or UPS will be conducted, including an assessment of the unfunded cost of non-contributory pension schemes.

Factors influencing recommendations formulation:

  1. The economic condition of the country will be a crucial factor in formulating recommendations to avoid excessive financial strain on the government’s coffers.
  2.  The impact on state government finances, as states typically adjust Central Pay Commission recommendations with modifications, will also be evaluated.
  3.  A comparison with the private sector in terms of salary, working conditions, and benefits will be made to ensure competitiveness.
