8th Pay Commission: The 8th meeting of the Pay Commission in Jaipur has ended, with the subsequent meeting set to take place in Chennai on September 7th and 8th. During the Jaipur meeting, various representative organizations for employees and pensioners deliberated on multiple issues concerning the commission, with a primary focus on the yearly increment.
Once the new pay commission’s recommendations are finalized, implementing them can take time. Processes such as the report, government approval, and final notification can take several months to implement the new salaries.
Suppose the implementation of the new salary of the 8th Pay Commission is delayed by 20 months. In such a situation, if the government implements the revised basic pay from the previous effective date, employees may receive arrears for that period.
All employee representatives pushed for a higher increment rate. Presently, government employees and pensioners are granted a 3% annual increment, which they consider inadequate due to inflation. They are requesting the government to raise the annual increment to a minimum of 7%.
The All India New Pension Scheme Employees Federation (AINPSEF) has specifically asked for a 7% annual increment. If this increase is granted, the potential salary and pension of employees can be explored. For example, if a Level 8 employee’s basic salary is currently Rs 47,600, and a 2.15 fitment factor is applied as per the 8th Pay Commission, the total basic salary would rise to Rs 1,02,340. Factoring in DA and HRA would further boost the total salary.
Over a span of 5 years with a 7% increment:
– In the first year, the salary would be Rs 12,28,080
– In the second year, it would be Rs 13,14,046
– In the third year, it would be Rs 14,06,029
– In the fourth year, it would be Rs 15,04,451
– In the fifth year, it would be Rs 16,09,762
By implementing a 7% increment, employees could potentially receive an additional Rs 29 lakh. Similarly, projecting the salary based on a 7% increment, the annual salary would reach Rs 1,69,67,703 in the 10th year. This indicates that after a decade of having the 7% increment in place, employees could see an extra Rs 29 lakh added to their salary.
