Upcoming electric cars in India: Demand for electric vehicles in the Indian car market has risen over the past year, with brands like Tata Motors and Mahindra deserving much of the credit. However, this momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Over the next 12 months, four companies are set to launch six new electric cars in the Indian market.
So, if you are considering buying an electric vehicle as your next car, this information is for you. Six new electric vehicles are scheduled for launch in the Indian EV market within the coming year. Here is a look at which companies are launching which models and when.
MG Hector Tomahawk
First on the list is the MG Hector Tomahawk, a new three-row SUV based on China’s Wuling Starlight 560. It will initially launch with a pure electric variant on August 26, followed later by a plug-in hybrid version. The electric variant is expected to feature a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134 hp and 200 Nm of torque, along with a potential 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack. This setup could enable a top speed of 160 km/h and a range of approximately 500 kilometres.

Tata Tigor.ev
Since deliveries began in December 2017, the Tata Tigor. ev is set to receive its most significant facelift to date this year. The new Tigor.ev may feature sleek headlamps, new bumpers, a revised front grille, and a redesigned dashboard. While there may not be major mechanical changes, the car could offer the feel of a new-generation model in terms of aesthetics.
Tata Safari. ev
Currently, the Tata Safari and Tata Altroz are the only two remaining models in the lineup that have not yet been introduced in an electric variant. Tata Motors is likely to launch the pure electric variant of the Safari next quarter, directly challenging large family electric SUVs like the Mahindra XEV 9S and MG Hector Tomahawk EV. The Safari.ev is expected to be offered in variants similar to the Harrier.ev—standard-range RWD, long-range RWD, and long-range AWD.
Hyundai HE1i EV
Hyundai is preparing to directly challenge the Tata Nexon.ev and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV with its new HE1i EV. It will feature a boxy body and rugged styling elements, alongside modern touches such as ‘Parametric Pixel’ theme lighting, flush-fitting door handles, and aero wheels. Hyundai may offer it with two battery pack options, both expected to utilise LFP cells from Exide Energy.

Maruti YMC
Maruti Suzuki’s new electric MPV, codenamed ‘YMC’, is also expected to launch in the first half of next year. Spy shots reveal an SUV-style model positioned in the same segment as vehicles like the Kia Carens and Clavis EV. Based on the e-Vitara platform, it will share the same battery pack and powertrain options, potentially offering a range of around 500 kilometres.
Mahindra BE 07
Next is the Mahindra BE 07, a new five-seater electric SUV positioned between the BE 6 and the XEV 9S. It will directly rival the Tata Harrier.ev, with expected dimensions of approximately 4.6 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 1.7 meters in height. It is expected to launch in standard-range and extended-range RWD variants, featuring powertrains and battery packs similar to those in Mahindra’s ‘Born Electric’ lineup. This new C-SUV could offer up to 650 kilometres of range, making it the longest-range vehicle on this list.
