5 Day Banking Update: The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) has scheduled an in-person meeting of the High-Level Committee on 5-Day Banking for November 12, 2026, in Mumbai. The meeting will take place at 10:00 AM at the IBA Committee Room, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade. In a letter dated October 28, 2026, the IBA invited the General Secretaries of AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, BEFI, AIBOA, INBOC and INBEF to attend the meeting in person.

5 Day Banking Update

The latest communication follows an earlier letter dated September 29, 2026, concerning the High-Level Committee on 5-Day Banking. The invitation was issued by Arvind Misra, Senior Advisor – HR & Industrial Relations at the IBA, requesting representatives of the participating bank employees’ and officers’ organisations to be present for the scheduled discussions. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the committee and the invited representatives to deliberate on the long-pending demand for five-day banking in India.

Notice Issues by IBA

Bank employee unions and officers’ organisations have been seeking a system in which banks remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, while regular banking operations continue from Monday to Friday. However, the IBA’s latest letter does not specify the detailed agenda of the meeting or announce any decision regarding the implementation of five-day banking. Therefore, the November 12 meeting should not be interpreted as confirmation that the demand has been accepted or that a rollout date has been finalised.

Bank employees and customers will have to wait for further developments and an official announcement from the concerned authorities to know whether the discussions will lead to any concrete decision on the proposed five-day banking system.
