When it launched in 2019, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro shattered expectations for what a budget smartphone could achieve. With a powerful processor, versatile quad cameras, and a premium glass design, it quickly became a global best-seller. But how does it hold up today? We take a nostalgic yet practical look at whether this classic still deserves your attention in today’s market.
Design: A Glass-Back Beauty That Still Turns Heads
The Redmi Note 8 Pro featured a stunning 3D glass back with a gradient finish—a design that felt premium then and still stands out now. Its 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch offers vibrant colors and decent brightness for everyday use. While the bezels are thicker than modern standards, the overall build quality remains impressive for its time. Practical features like a 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster (for controlling appliances) add to its versatility.
Performance: The MediaTek Helio G90T—A Game-Changer
At its core, the Note 8 Pro was powered by the MediaTek Helio G90T, a processor designed specifically for gaming. Even today, it handles:
Social media and multitasking smoothly.
Light to moderate gaming—titles like Call of Duty Mobile and Genshin Impact run on low to medium settings.
Paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage (expandable via microSD), it remains capable for daily use, though it may struggle with heavier apps by modern standards.
Camera: Quad Setup That Pioneered Budget Photography
The quad-camera system was groundbreaking in its price range:
64MP main sensor: Captures detailed photos in good lighting.
8MP ultra-wide lens: Great for landscapes and group shots.
2MP macro lens: Fun for close-up photography.
2MP depth sensor: Enhances portrait-mode shots.
Daylight photos are still vibrant and detailed, but low-light performance shows its age with noticeable noise and slower focusing. The 20MP front camera delivers decent selfies.
Battery Life: Still a Reliable Performer
The 4,500mAh battery remains one of its strongest suits, easily lasting a full day of moderate use. It supports 18W fast charging, though newer devices charge significantly faster.
