Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Death – Court Finds Former PM Guilty of Crimes Against Humanity

New Delhi: A Bangladesh court today announced a case against Sheikh Hasina that is being discussed worldwide. On Monday,the tribunal handed down the death penalty to Sheikh Hasina. Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity committed during the student protests between July and August 2024.

The third accused in the case,former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun,was spared the death penalty. He will only face five years in prison because he admitted his guilt and assisted the case by becoming a witness for the government. Sheikh Hasina is currently living in exile in India and has refused to appear before the court.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was not sentenced. He had admitted his guilt in court and stated that he wanted to become a witness for the government. In July,International Crimes Tribunal-1 accepted his plea and allowed him to become a government witness.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that Mamun was asked in court whether he accepted the charges against him. In response,he said,“Yes,I accept the charges and want to help the court uncover the truth.
