When asked whether any government employees union or organization has demanded a change in the retirement age,the minister said,“No formal proposal has been received from the employees from the National Council (Joint Consultative Mechanism).

” On the question of the details of the retirement age of employees of the Center and various state governments and the reasons for the disparity in their retirement age,Singh said,“No such data is kept centrally in the government as this subject comes under the State List.” No formal proposal: No formal proposal has been received from the National Council to change the retirement age.

Additional pension for the elderly

Further,in response to another question,the Centre said that additional pension is given to elderly pensioners as it is justified keeping in view their needs,particularly health-related conditions. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh,in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha,said that additional pension is automatically paid to the pensioner/family pensioner as required by the pension disbursing authorities/banks.

According to the minister,the government has approved an additional pension of 20 percent upon attaining the age of 80 years,30 percent on attaining the age of 85 years,40 percent on attaining the age of 90 years,50 percent on attaining the age of 95 years and 100 percent on attaining the age of 100 years as per the recommendation of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC). He said that as the age increases,especially the health-related needs increase,provision for additional pension has been made.
