AIS/TIS Check Online: The mere mention of ITR filing often brings to mind massive forms, complex calculations, hefty CA fees, and the fear of receiving a tax notice. There are various income tax forms available, and you must select the one that corresponds to your income. Even a minor error can lead to a notice from the Income Tax Department; therefore, it is crucial to thoroughly understand the forms before filing your ITR. Specifically, one should be well-versed in the concepts of AIS and TIS before filing an income tax return.
If you understand these terms and use them correctly, your return will be filed accurately, and the likelihood of errors or subsequent notices will be significantly reduced. Indeed, filing an ITR involves several key components.
What is AIS?
AIS stands for Annual Information Statement. This form provides comprehensive details regarding transactions undertaken during a financial year—essentially a record of where and how much you transacted throughout the year. AIS is highly useful when filing an ITR.
It includes details on transactions such as salary, interest, rental income, dividends, TCS and TDS details, mutual fund investments, foreign remittances, and property purchases or sales, as well as information on GST turnover, tax payments, tax demands, and refunds. To simplify the ITR filing process, taxpayers are provided with a consolidated record of all their financial activities in one place.
What is TIS?
TIS stands for Taxpayer Information Summary. It serves as a summary of all your financial information. It displays the data processed by the system and the values accepted following any feedback you may have provided. Information in the TIS is presented categorically. It encompasses various categories such as salary, interest, and dividends. It is designed so that if you wish to use pre-filled data while filing your return, the TIS helps populate the form with this information beforehand, thereby simplifying the filing process.
Details of all types of income
Simply put, the AIS provides taxpayers with a consolidated view of their taxable income. The AIS includes details of income received from sources apart from salary—specifically those specified under the Income Tax Act, 1961. This means it captures information on all income falling under taxable categories. The TIS, on the other hand, essentially serves as a summary of the AIS.
