MEB + platform and battery.
Volkswagen has built the ID Cross on its new MEB + platform. This is the same platform on which ID Polo is also built. The car comes with two battery options - 37kWh and 52kWh NMC (Nickel Magnesium Cobalt) batteries. Both the batteries get a 290Nm front-mounted electric motor. The company claims that the smaller battery offers a WLTP range of up to 317 km and the larger battery offers up to 427 km.
How fast will it charge?
This is the biggest question that comes to the mind of every EV buyer. The charging capability of the ID Cross is quite impressive. The 37kWh battery charges from 10 to 80% at 90kW in 23 minutes, while the 52kWh battery takes 24-25 minutes at 105kW. That is, if you're on a long trip, a coffee break will pretty much be charging in itself. According to the company, AC charging supports up to 11kW.
Design and appearance: What's the ID Cross look like?
The ID Cross is built on Volkswagen's' Pure Positive 'design language. It gets connected LED headlamps, illuminated VW logo, chunky black cladding and 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, there is a large bumper, LED tail-lamps, and LED tail-lamps.
The car is 4,153mm long, 1,794mm wide, 1,581mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,601mm. The boot space of 475 litres is also quite practical.
Interior and Features: What's so special inside?
On the inside, the ID Cross features a 12.9 -inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, along with a 10.25 -inch digital drive display. The special thing is that the company has given physical controls on the steering wheel and the center console -
which is a good change after the criticism of the touch-sensitive system of the old ID models. It gets a 360-degree camera, ADAS, Autopark Assist, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. An 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is also available.
Is the Volkswagen ID Cross coming to India?
That's the most important question. So far, Volkswagen has not made any official announcement of bringing the ID Cross to India. In India, the company is currently focusing on petrol models.
But if you look at the rapid growth of India's EV market, Volkswagen should not delay in bringing its ID series here. The demand for premium electric SUVs is on the rise and if the ID Cross arrives, it could prove to be a strong option in the segment. However, its price in India is much higher than in Europe.
Safety and other features
The ID Cross is very strong in terms of safety. It comes with features like connected travel assist, traffic light recognition, one-pedal driving, and remote parking. These are features that not only make driving easier, but also safer. With the V2L function, you can also power other electric devices from the car's battery.
