Amidst ongoing protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar regarding paper leaks, reports of another paper leak have emerged from Uttarakhand. News has surfaced that two engineering papers at Uttarakhand Technical University were allegedly leaked. Consequently, the university has cancelled the examinations for both subjects. According to reports, the accused—Ashish Kumar, a professor at Shivalik College—was responsible for setting the question papers. He is accused of sending questions closely resembling the actual exam questions to students via a college WhatsApp group.
During the protest at Jantar Mantar, police personnel were attacked, resulting in injuries to several officers, including two ACPs and two inspectors. The injured include ACPs Vivek Bhagat and Jai Prakash from the Connaught Place division. According to the police, teams from the RAF and the police force were deployed at the designated location as per routine procedure.
News Emerges Amidst Protests Over Leaks
Questions are also being raised regarding the college’s role in this entire incident. A case has been registered against the accused teacher. Given the prevailing nationwide atmosphere regarding paper leaks, this development could prove to be significant. Students have been consistently demanding measures to curb paper leak incidents and accountability for those responsible.
Vice-Chancellor Explains the Situation
Tripta Thakur, Vice-Chancellor of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, stated that a demand has been made for strict action against the teacher and the college he is affiliated with. “We have barred the teacher from participating in any capacity in future examinations for the next seven years,” she said. “He compromised the integrity of the exam for the sake of 22 students.”
The Vice-Chancellor added, “It is our moral duty to ensure that such teachers are never involved in our examinations. The college employing this teacher should file a case against him. We have informed the college that we are dissatisfied with the action they have taken so far. The leaked paper concerned only that specific college.” Upon investigation, it was discovered that one paper had already been leaked; consequently, that paper was also cancelled.
Opposition adamant on Education Minister’s resignation
The CJP and the opposition are unwilling to accept the government’s offer. They remain adamant in their demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. According to sources, the CJP has rejected the government’s proposal for dialogue. Union Minister JP Nadda has assured a discussion in Parliament on the paper leak and has given the opposition the right to decide the date and time.
