The message claimed that petrol pump operators in Madhya Pradesh were planning to restrict UPI payments over Rs 2,000 and proposed a No-UPI Day on September 23rd. Indian Oil clarified that no such directive had been issued by petrol pump owners, indicating that there is no official confirmation about imposing a Rs 2,000 limit on UPI payments.
There is no confirmation of any impending strike
Indian Oil emphasized that the message shared on social media is entirely untrue and misleading. The company stated that the Petroleum Dealers Association has not released any notice about a no-UPI day or strike on September 23rd. The origin of this claim was from individuals not associated with petroleum dealers, casting doubt on the credibility of the viral message.
The company assured that if any decisions are made regarding digital payments, the relevant organizations or companies will provide updates. Currently, there have not been any announcements prohibiting UPI payments exceeding Rs 2,000 at petrol pumps. Therefore, customers need not be alarmed by the viral message.
Indian Oil further mentioned that petrol pump dealers have consistently encouraged digital payments, with customers using UPI and other digital methods for fuel purchases. Digital payments are preferred for their ease and speed, making sudden claims of halting UPI payments over Rs 2,000 or digital transactions on a specific day inconsistent with the current situation.
If you have received a message about a no-UPI day on September 23rd or suspending UPI payments over Rs 2,000, it is advisable to verify the information before sharing it. Indian Oil clarified that this claim is false, and there is no official decision to stop UPI payments over Rs 2,000 at petrol pumps. Customers are urged to rely only on information from reliable sources.
