UPI AutoPay: Nowadays, you typically make payments for services like mobile recharges, electricity bills, OTT subscriptions, and loan EMIs online. To simplify these transactions, the ‘UPI AutoPay’ feature has been introduced. It allows you to grant permission once, enabling scheduled payments to be made automatically from your bank account. Utilising this convenient UPI feature also saves you time.

However, people often enable ‘AutoPay’ for an app and subsequently forget to disable it; as a result, funds continue to be deducted from their accounts every month, even if they are no longer using the service. If you have enabled AutoPay, you can check your ‘AutoPay mandates’ in your UPI app and stop them if necessary. Let’s explore what UPI AutoPay is and what its benefits are.

What is UPI AutoPay?
UPI AutoPay is a highly useful feature that allows you to set up recurring monthly payments—also referred to as a ‘mandate.’ Once you grant permission, payments are processed automatically according to the specified terms and dates. For example, if you have an OTT platform subscription costing ₹299 with AutoPay enabled, the amount will be deducted automatically on the due date, eliminating the need for you to manually make the payment each month.

What are the benefits of UPI AutoPay?
The primary benefit of UPI AutoPay is that it saves time for users. You do not need to repeatedly open the app to make payments; instead, the exact amount is paid on time. Since payments are made punctually, you avoid incurring any late fees. Furthermore, you have the flexibility to deactivate your AutoPay mandates whenever you wish.

How to check your UPI AutoPay settings?
If you have AutoPay enabled on your bank account, you can easily verify it.
Simply open your preferred UPI app—such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM—to view your active mandates. Next, search for the ‘Auto Pay’ or ‘Mandate’ option.
You can now view the details of your active mandates.
