Upcoming Hybrid SUVs in India: The market for hybrid cars in India is expected to grow quickly in the near future. This is because many consumers desire better mileage but are not yet ready to switch entirely to electric vehicles. In response to this trend, companies like Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Renault, Honda, and Toyota are preparing to introduce hybrid technology in their compact SUVs. Let’s take a look at the details.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Suzuki may introduce the Fronx Hybrid to the market in the future. It is likely to feature the company’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine paired with a hybrid system. The vehicle is expected to come equipped with an electric motor and a small battery pack.
According to reports, the Fronx Hybrid could offer a mileage of over 35 kmpl, though Maruti has not yet confirmed the figure. Its launch date and final specifications have also not been revealed.

Next-Generation Kia Sonet Hybrid
Kia is also gearing up to expand its hybrid technology offerings in India. The next-generation Sonet is expected to arrive around 2027, and a hybrid version could be introduced subsequently.
Full details regarding its engine, battery, and electric motor are currently unavailable. Upon its arrival, the hybrid version could serve as a new option positioned between the petrol and diesel models. Further details are expected to emerge closer to the launch of the next-generation Sonet.
Renault Bridger Hybrid
Renault is working on a new sub-4-meter SUV, which is expected to be named the ‘Bridger’. It will be positioned below the Duster, and production is expected to commence in 2027.
This SUV will be built on Renault’s multi-energy platform, which supports various powertrain options; consequently, it is expected to feature a hybrid engine. However, Renault has not yet confirmed a hybrid version for the India-spec Bridger. If the company does offer a hybrid option, the Bridger could strengthen Renault’s position in the Indian compact SUV segment.

Honda’s New Compact SUV
Honda is developing a compact new SUV for the Indian market, expected to arrive by around 2028. It is likely to fall into the sub-4-metre segment and will strengthen the company’s SUV lineup. While there is an expectation that it will feature a hybrid powertrain, Honda has not yet confirmed its existence. Currently, details regarding the SUV’s design, features, and engine options remain scarce.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor Hybrid
Toyota may also be working on a hybrid version of the Urban Cruiser Taisor. Since the Taisor shares its platform and many components with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it is expected to feature a hybrid system based on Maruti’s Z-series engine.
However, Toyota has not yet confirmed the launch date or powertrain details for the hybrid version. If the Taisor Hybrid is launched, it could extend Toyota’s hybrid technology into the compact and more affordable SUV segment.
